The Beat Youth and Community Teenage Pregnancy Development Programme has been a year long project facilitated by The Beat Project funded by Urban Thames Gateway and Arts Council England.

The focus of the project has been to develop a local website (www.thebeatproject.org.uk/Urban) addressing issues surrounding teenage pregnancy. This is a stunning and much acclaimed piece of work developed with young people and communities from Urban wards in North Kent.

Throughout the year The Beat Project have delivered a series of workshops, courses and initiatives such as the very successful schools tour and the teenage pregnancy film created by Young Carers which also involved many other young people from within Urban wards.

All of this including a compilation DVD, a CD, Magazine, The Website and informative and entertaining showcase event has really set the scene for this vital work to continue.
The website will act as a constant source of information and reference for many young people and communities in North Kent and the DVD compilation including real life video diaries form two amazing young people and a wealth of other films brings the project to life for those involved or not.

The Beat Project would like to thank everyone involved in making this project so very worthwhile in particular many of the young people who were an inspiration to us all.

Overall the project has been a great success and has highlighted there is a definite need for this sort of work, it has given the people we worked with a voice and shown how professional music and the arts organisations such as The Beat Project working alongside other professional partners, young people and the community can really make a difference. |
