Changing Places - The Beat Project

The Changing Places Regeneration Film Project funded by Aim Higher Kent and Medway and Kent County Council and facilitated by The Beat Project worked with local community groups and schools in Swale, Ashford, Dover, Thanet and Kent Thameside. It set out to promote a broader understanding of how regional development plans will shape experiences and opportunities for future generations and inspire young people to become more involved in the process.

The Beat Project engaged young people throughout the five areas in Kent in order to set up a number of youth and community film projects to produce a series of films profiling specific regeneration programmes.

The community participants were assisted in the practicalities of making each film, and played a major role in determining all creative processes including acting, directing, filming, script writing and editing. Where possible, participants gained the opportunity to observe professional working practice of TV broadcasters ffrom BBC South East both in studios and on location.

The completed DVD has five area films together with an interview with Paul Carter (Leader of Kent County Council) and there is also a website to reflect each project with further information about how each film was made.
